Ajitesh Defends his PhD Dissertation
PhD Candidate Ajitesh Srivastava successfully defended his PhD Dissertation titled Computing Cascades: How to Spread Rumors, Win Campaigns, Stop Violence and Predict Epidemics. The defense committee consisted of Viktor K. Prasanna (chair), Jyotirmoy V. Deshmukh, and Eric Rice.

Prof. Prasanna Received the Prestigious IEEE-CS Wallace McDowell Award
Viktor K. Prasanna, the Charles Lee Powell Chair in Engineering and professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Southern California, has been named 2015 recipient of the IEEE Computer Society’s prestigious W. Wallace McDowell Award for his contributions to reconfigurable computing.
Won the Target Data Challenge
Our team won the first place in the Target Data Challenge and have been awarded a prize of $10,000. The task was to predict the future purchases given the past transactions. The team consists of Palash Goyal, Chung Ming Cheung, Ajitesh Srivastava, and Arash Saber Tehrani, all members of Data Science Lab under Professor Viktor Prasanna. Our solution was based on a implementing a Collaborative Filtering approach with a novel sampling method.
Won the DARPA Challenge
We are one of the winners of DARPA Chikungunya Challenge and have been awarded a prize of $10,000. The team consists of PhD student Ajitesh Srivastava, and Research Associates Anand Panagadan and Charalampos Chelmis.
